Liverpool set to be boosted by Henderson return for crucial Spurs clash

Liverpool are set to be boosted by the return of Jordan Henderson for the club’s crucial Premier League clash with Tottenham tomorrow evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to north London looking to address a concerning run of form that has seen the champions drop to fifth, the Reds without a win in their past five league fixtures and without a goal in four top-flight games.

The club’s faltering title defence is set to be handed a boost by the return from injury of Henderson, however, with the club captain having missed the Premier League defeat to Burnley and the Reds’ FA Cup exit at Manchester United last weekend.

Henderson’s influence has been sorely missed in recent fixtures and the 30-year-old is set to start in his usual midfield position, having been utilised at centre-back in his last two league appearances to help cover Liverpool’s lack of defensive options.

According to the Telegraph, Joel Matip will partner Fabinho at centre-back for the clash with Spurs after missing the weekend defeat at Old Trafford, allowing Henderson to return to the Reds’ engine room where he has amassed an incredible win record.

The England international has lost just two league games in which he has started in midfield since October 2017, with both defeats coming in away fixtures at Manchester City in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Liverpool currently sit fifth in the division ahead of tomorrow’s clash and are seven points adrift of league leaders Manchester City, whilst Spurs are one point and one place further back in sixth, though have a game in hand.
