Liverpool run the risk of missing out on Ruben Amorim with Barcelona considering the Portuguese coach as their next boss.
Amorim has been named as Liverpool’s leading alternative to first-choice Xabi Alonso, as the Reds look for a successor to Jurgen Klopp this summer.
Klopp will step down from his role as a manager at the end of the campaign and Alonso’s achievement in taking Bayer Leverkusen to the brink of a maiden Bundesliga title has made him the outstanding candidate.
However, Alonso’s focus is on treble success with Leverkusen this season and Liverpool also face rival interest from Bayern Munich for the Spaniard.
The 42-year-old, who spent five seasons at Liverpool as a player, is unlikely to make a decision on his future until the end of the campaign, a situation which leaves the Reds in danger of missing out on their alternative option.
The Independent claim that Barcelona are ‘looking at’ Amorim as the Spanish side look to replace Xavi at the Camp Nou.
Amorim has won admirers at Europe’s top clubs for his work at Sporting Lisbon, who he has led to the top of the Primeira Liga table this season after a drought-breaking title success in 2020/21.
It is set to be a fascinating summer in terms of managerial change with Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all on the hunt for new head coaches.
