Liverpool are ready to drop their long standing interest in Virgil van Dijk according to reports today.
Jurgen Klopp was known to be heavily interested in signing the Dutchman last summer, but was left frustrated by Southampton who refused to sell under any circumstance. The south coast club even reported Liverpool for making an illegal approach for the centre back, a move which forced the club to take a step back.
Despite making no further moves for the defender, the Merseyside club have maintained an interest in signing him, with a potential move having been speculated in the January transfer market.
However, according to the Irish Independent, Liverpool are ready to drop their interest in van Dijk if Southampton continue to maintain their £70m asking price.
Manchester City are also believed to be interested in signing the 26-year-old, while Chelsea and Arsenal were also linked with potential move at times during the summer.
