Liverpool are not interested in signing Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City despite reports to the contrary.

Several news outlets have led with the story that Mahrez will have a medical on Sunday ahead of a £50m move to Anfield, following the announcement that Philippe Coutinho will finally make his £142m departure to Barcelona.

However, despite the various reports, Sky Sports claim that Liverpool are not interested in signing the Algerian.

Jurgen Klopp’s tip target to replace Coutinho is in fact Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, a player who Liverpool were linked with back in the summer.

Lemar would be a better fit to replace the outgoing Brazilian, with the Frenchman able to operate in a central midfield role as well as out wide.

We wrote this article yesterday explaining exactly why we thought Mahrez was not a suitable replacement for Coutinho, and if Sky Sports’ report is correct, it seems as though Liverpool agree.
