Sadio Mane has suggested that he is not thinking about rumours that have linked him with a move to Real Madrid, insisting he wants to become a Liverpool ‘legend’.
The Senegalese forward is enjoying his best spell in English football this season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions, one goal shy of his best ever goalscoring campaign when he scored 23 playing for RB Salzburg in 2013/14.
His form for Liverpool has seen him reportedly attract the interest of Spanish giants Real Madrid as an alternative to their top target, Eden Hazard, as Zinedine Zidane looks to embark on a major rebuilding project in the summer.
However, in comments which will no doubt please Reds fans everywhere, the 27-year-old former Southampton forward has maintained that he is ‘very happy’ at Anfield, and wants to go on to become a club legend.
“Of course I want to be a legend not only for Liverpool but also in the Premier League story and that is one of my targets. I will do everything possible to achieve everything possible,” Mane told the official LFC Magazine.
“Reaching 100 games means a lot to me. To play this many games for a club like Liverpool is incredible.
“Like I have always said, I am very happy to play for this club and every single day I am enjoying being here and trying to do everything to win something for this club.”
Mane scored the opener in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Porto on Wednesday night, his fourth in this season’s Champions League, with the result booking them a mouthwatering semi-final tie against Barcelona.
