Liverpool manager Arne Slot has discussed the club’s difficulties finding a regular right-back this season.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure last summer left a void in the Liverpool side, while replacement Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley have suffered injuries this season. Bradley has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
Joe Gomez, another option, has also had an injury-impacted campaign, with Slot forced to utilise Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo at right-back on occasion.
Frimpong’s minutes have been managed carefully and the Dutchman was withdrawn during the midweek win over Galatasaray.
Discussing the issues, Slot said at his pre-Brighton press conference: “Jeremie Frimpong for example is such an explosive player, he does so many sprints and unfortunately so many times this season when games have come fast he got injured, and now with Joe [Gomez] you can understand which questions we now might have to answer.
“Dominik for me is a midfielder. When I play him in a different position it is not because I think I want to be a tactical genius, it is that I don’t have other options and want to pick the best player available.
“Dominik is a very good midfielder for us, we have more than Dominik which is why I am able to move him to different positions and he can play well there. If I have the chance I play him in midfield.”
