Liverpool and Bournemouth bosses agree on MacAllister red card decision

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes that Alexis MacAllister “should not have been” red carded during Saturday’s win over Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The Argentine received his marching orders in the 58th minute for catching Ryan Christie on the foot.

“I saw the red card back and for sure we have to talk about it,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “I understand 100 percent how it looks for a ref in that moment but when you see it back it is the inside of the foot and no power behind it.

“It is not ruthless, he just mis-hit the ball and then hit slightly the shin of the other player. We saw harsher challenges which were not a red card and this shouldn’t have been. I don’t know exactly what we have to do, but we should talk about it again.”

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola agreed with his counterpart, telling BBC Match of the Day “in real life it did not look like a red card.”

The Cherries found the net inside the first two minutes of the game, but it was ruled offside. They didn’t have to wait long to find a legitimate goal, however, taking advantage of Liverpool’s disorganisation to score through Semenya.

Luis Diaz levelled matters with a superb volley in the 27th minute, before Mo Salah was handed the opportunity to give the hosts the lead when Dominik Szoboszlai was brought down in the box.

The Egyptian saw his initial effort saved by Neto, but tapped home the rebound. Diogo Jota capped off his impressive individual performance with a goal just minutes after MacAllister was shown a straight red.
