Liverpool and Leicester are both interested in signing West Brom centre-back Ahmed Hegazi, according to reports on ESPN.

The 26-year-old is currently on loan with the Baggies from Egyptian side Al Ahly. Despite his current teams struggles in the Premier League this season, the 6ft 4in defender has put in a string of impressive displays.

Liverpool’s problems in the centre of defence are well documented, so Jurgen Klopp’s interest in the player comes as no surprise.

Hegazi has 41 caps for Egypt and spent time with Italian sides’ Fiorentina and Perugia earlier in his career. Leicester’s head of recruitment Eduardo Macia was instrumental in the deal that took the 26-year-old to Florence and rates the player highly.

West Brom can scupper the plans of their rivals to sign Hegazi however, as they placed an option to buy into the season-long loan deal with Al Ahly, that took the defender to the Hawthorns earlier this summer.
