Arsenal have once again come in for heavy criticism after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals Spurs at Wembley.

In fact, had it not been for some excellent work from Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech this North London Derby could easily have ended up with a much more embarrassing scoreline.

One of Arsene Wenger’s sides most vocal critics over recent years has been former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher. Speaking on Sky Sports MNF last night the 40-year-old blasted Arsenal once again when he said:

“If you go back to the Monday Night Football we did, I think against Crystal Palace, at the back end of last season, I called them cowards.

“Afterwards, when you calm down a little bit and reflect, maybe you think that was a bit strong.

“Them stats back me up. 21 points from 26 away games is an embarrassment for a team that is supposed to be one of the top teams in the country. “

Saturday’s defeat has virtually ended Arsenal’s chances of finishing in the top four, with them now sitting in sixth, eight points behind fourth placed Chelsea.

It now seems The Gunners only real hope fo qualifying for next season’s Champions League will be by winning the Europa League.
