Liverpool and Atletico Madrid are keeping tabs on the situation of Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal.
The teenager is set to assess his future should his minutes not increase under Hansi Flick, having been a substitute in four of his seven La Liga appearances this season. He’s provided two assists in 292 league minutes.
Bernal made nine league starts last season and made his senior debut for Spain in the summer. However, the arrival of Rodri from Manchester City has increased competition for a first-team place.
Barcelona do not want to sell the 19-year-old, but the stance could chance should Bernal express interest in an exit and a suitable offer arrives. According to transfer journalist Juan Jesus, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool are front of the queue should Bernal decide on an exit.
Liverpool are in the market for a midfielder after the sale of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan in the summer. Jones departed for the San Siro in search of more minutes, with Liverpool failing to sign a direct replacement.
Ryan Gravenberch has also struggled to recapture his best form under new head coach Andoni Iraola, with another option being considered ahead of the January window.
