Liverpool have joined the race to sign Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for the French midfielder, with the Ligue 1 club reluctant to sell another one of their stars.
The French Champions have already sold Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City, while Tiemoue Bakayoko has moved to Chelsea, three deals which have seen Monaco pocket almost £130m.
However, their Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain could be about to trigger a transfer chain reaction with the expectation that they will smash the transfer record to bring Neymar from Barcelona.
Barcelona are targetting Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, and have already had a £72m bid rejected by the Merseyside club. However, they are expected to intensify their pursuit of the Brazilian, with reports suggesting that they have already lodged an improved bid of £89m (€100m)
According to the The Sun, Jurgen Klopp has pleaded with the 25-year-old to stay at Anfield this summer, with reports suggesting he is open to a move to the Nou Camp.
Despite Liverpool’s reluctance to sell Coutinho, they have already started looking for potential replacements. The article claims that Liverpool are ready to challenge Arsenal for Thomas Lemar. Arsenal have already had three bids rejected for the 21-year-old, with the latest being for around £45m.
Monaco are believed to want £80m for the midfielder, while Liverpool believe a compromise of around £60m can be struck.
