Liverpool injury update on Jota and Chiesa ahead of Champions League tie

There is good and bad news for Liverpool on the injury front as Arne Slot delivered an update on Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa.

The Reds are preparing for their first home game of this season’s Uefa Champions League as they welcome Bologna to Anfield on Wednesday night, with kick off set for 8pm BST.

Liverpool injury update on Jota and Chiesa

Jota was a doubt heading into the midweek match having missed successive training sessions. Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed that the Portuguese attacker took a knock in the 2-1 win over Wolves on Saturday, but expects him to be available for selection.

“Diogo missed out on two sessions after the game against Wolves,” he said. “He took a knock. So I am expecting him to be with us tomorrow. That he is available to play.

There was less positive news when it comes to Chiesa, who has been ruled out of the game with an unspecified problem.

“Federico trained with us yesterday,” Slot said. “He came today with some problems so not expecting him to be with us.

“It’s a shame for him because he was looking forward to a Champions League night at Anfield, and especially because we face an Italian team. It’s a pity for him.”

The Dutchman could not put a date on his return to action, but does not expect the forward to be sidelined for too long.

“How long is he out? It’s always difficult because it happened yesterday but I am not expecting him to be out for a very long period of time. We will see if he can be in the team for Saturday.”
