Liverpool receive major boost ahead of Atalanta tie

Liverpool have welcomed four first-team players back to training as their injury worries begin to ease.

Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Stefan Bajcetic returned to grass on Tuesday as the quartet make an important step in their respective recovery schedules.

It is a much needed boost for the Reds after their Premier League title hopes were dented by a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Alisson has been sidelined by a hamstring injury since February, while Alexander-Arnold has also missed nearly two months of action due to a recurrence of a knee injury.

Liverpool have been without Jota since 17 January, when he was stretchered off in the 4-1 win over Brentford, while Bajcetic has missed virtually all of the campaign with an unspecified injury, although it is believed to be related to an adductor problem he sustained last May.

The Merseyside outfit have managed to maintain their charge for the title despite so many injuries to key players at various points of the season, such as Mo Salah, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Younger players like Caoimhín Kelleher, Conor Bradley and Harvey Elliot have stepped up in their absence to keep the side in the mix with seven games to go. Liverpool are level on points with leaders Arsenal, who have a superior goal difference.

Jurgen Klopp’s men host Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash at Anfield this Thursday, before returning to Premier League action on Sunday at the same venue.
