With Philippe Coutinho looking more and more likely to complete a move to Barcelona with each passing day, Liverpool have identified a potential replacement. The Brazilian’s move to the Nou Camp has been described as ‘when and not if’ with the Catalans due for discussions this week in order to come to a financial agreement with the Reds, which could be for around £130m.
According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool have identified Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar as his replacement.
Lemar was the talk of the summer transfer window, with at least four clubs seeking his signature. Arsenal were the closest to securing a deal on transfer deadline day, as the Frenchman was seen as a £92m replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who would have been allowed to move to Manchester City should the Frenchman’s have arrived at the Emirates.
However, with Sanchez staying, his transfer value has now plummeted, meaning Arsenal would no longer have the financial clout to compete, giving Liverpool a much more improved chance of sealing a move.
Lemar has seen his form dip from his impressive stats of last season. The 22-year-old has only scored twice and made four assists in Ligue 1 this season, but is still rated as one of France’s most promising talents.
