Liverpool will enter the market for a central defender with Joel Matip’s contract set to expire at the end of the season. The latter is currently sidelined with a long-term knee problem and is expected to move on when his deal runs out in the summer.

Guehi has emerged as a transfer target for the Reds despite the uncertainty surrounding the club’s next manager.

The 23-year-old has been excellent since signing for The Eagles from Chelsea in an £18m deal almost three years ago, establishing himself as a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The nine-cap defender has been linked with a number of the Premier League’s wealthier clubs and Liverpool are among his admirers, according to The Telegraph.

New Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is facing a fight to hold onto the club’s leading names in the summer with Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise also interesting teams higher up the division.

Palace were said to value Guehi at around £60m in the summer, amid reported interest from Manchester United and Spurs, and will demand a sizeable fee for the player. The South London side’s current record sale is the £50m deal that took Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United in 2019.
