Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has admitted that Jesse Lingard’s dance moves earlier in the season provided all the motivation that the Gunners needed to beat Manchester United at the weekend.
He later enranged Arsenal fans further by posting a picture of his celebration on his Instagram account, tagging the location of the picture as ‘Dancefloor’.
With the Gunners hosting United once again in the Premier League this weekend gone, Bernd Leno – who made a number of smart saves to deny Romelu Lukaku – admitted that Lingard’s exuberant celebrations served as added motivation.
“In your mind you will never forget something like that, when somebody is celebrating,” Leno told Sky Sports.
“You don’t want to see it again, so we were motivated.
“And we knew before the game about our chance, because Man United had one point more than us [in the race for fourth].”
Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, to see the North London club leapfrog Solskjaer’s side into the top four, and Leno is confident that Unai Emery’s side can qualify for the Champions League.
“Now we have two points and that was enough motivation for us. We are in the top four and the other teams now wait for our mistakes,” the German added.
“There are still eight games and we want to win every game but we have to focus on each one, because the other teams will wait for small mistakes.
“We don’t play against the other top six teams, so I think we can beat the others.
“The next game is against Newcastle at home and it is an opportunity to win and stay in the top four.”
