Lineker gives his thoughts on opening Premier League weekend

Match of the Day is without a doubt one of the most iconic football TV shows ever, and it’s host Gary Lineker has taken to his favourite social media medium twitter to share his thoughts on the opening weekend of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

In a weekend that saw the all the teams that finished from first to fifth last season winning their games rather comfortably, Lineker shared the already commonly held view among most fans that this was an extremely predictable beginning to the 26th Premier League campaign.

Last year on the opening day we had reigning Champions Chelsea 3-0 down at half-time at home to Burnley, but this weekend’s results simply seemed to show that the gap between the teams at the top of league and those below is simply growing wider with every passing season.

The former Spurs, Everton and Barcelona forward was also impressed with Liverpool’s rampant display during their 4-0 victory over West Ham and the 57-year-old also revealed that he thinks Jurgen Klopp’s side will be the biggest threat to Manchester City’s dominance.

Finally Lineker stated that VAR should have been introduced to the Premier League, with several decisions over the weekend once again highlighting the need for officials to be able to benefit from video technology.

Lineker, who started his career at Leicester City, also took to twitter over the weekend to way lyrical about Paul Pogba’s performance during Manchester United’s 2-1 win over the Foxes on Friday night.
