Levante vs Atletico Madrid – Match preview and team news
- Date: Saturday, 31st October.
- Kick-off: 1pm BST.
- Venue: Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, Valencia.
Levante team news
Levante manager Luís Castro faces a tactical dilemma ahead of this challenging clash, with multiple high-profile absences.
The biggest blow to the squad is the loss of key winger and team captain Roger Brugué, who has been ruled out after picking up a muscle injury.
The defensive and midfield departments are also depleted, with defender Adrián De La Fuente and midfielder Enzo Bardeli both sidelined.
In the absence of their captain, Levante will rely heavily on the attacking prowess of forward Iván Romero to breach the opposition defence.
Furthermore, the match carries extra significance for full-back Manu Sánchez, who is set to start on the left side of the defence and line up against his former employers in what promises to be a highly emotional encounter.
Atletico Madrid team news
Atlético Madrid travels to Valencia with a mix of notable absences and crucial reinforcements for this fixture.
Manager Diego Simeone will be forced to navigate the match without club captain Koke, who remains sidelined due to a troublesome hamstring injury.
Additionally, midfielder Johnny Cardoso is unavailable as he continues his recovery from a thigh strain, with both players targeting a return to action in early November.
On a positive note, the defence receives a massive boost with the return of star centre-back Cristian “Cuti” Romero, who has fully recovered from an adductor strain and is in contention to start.
In the attack, the red-hot Julián Alvarez is expected to spearhead the offensive line following his recent goal-scoring streak. He will be heavily supported by the creative vision of playmaker Álex Baena operating in the midfield engine room.
Form
Levante
Levante find themselves struggling for consistency. Sitting 15th in the standings, Los Granotes have accumulated only 10 points from their opening 10 matches. Their recent outing resulted in a narrow 2-1 defeat away against Real Sociedad. Despite showing explicit attacking threat at home where they scored 13 times in four games, defensive vulnerabilities have continually hindered their ability to secure all three points.
Atletico Madrid
Atlético Madrid enters the clash in scintillating form, boasting a six-game winning streak in La Liga. Sitting second in the table, they remain just two points adrift of league leaders Barcelona. Diego Simeone’s squad ground out a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Deportivo de La Coruña in their previous match, courtesy of a Julián Alvarez goal. Demonstrating balanced consistency, they have combined robust defensive solidity with clinical finishing across all competitions.
Predicted lineups
Levante: Ryan; Perez, Mandi, Ndukwe, Sanchez; Fernandez, Requena, Olasagasti, V Garcia; Ratkov, Romero
Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Llorente, Pubill, Hancko, Grimaldo; Barrios, Hjulmand, Baena; Simeone, Alvarez, Lee
