Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed that Jamie Vardy is a doubt for Leicester’s trip to face Liverpool on Boxing Day.
The Foxes take on the league leaders on Thursday evening looking for a response from back-to-back heavy defeats. Van Nistelrooy’s side face a Liverpool side who have lost just once this season and has confirmed Vardy is a doubt to feature.
The 37-year-old is Leicester’s leading scorer with six goals this season and has a strong record against the Reds. He has scored eight times in 16 previous Premier League appearances against the Merseysiders.
“We have to address Jamie [Vardy]. He picked up some knocks,” Van Nistelrooy said at his pre-match press conference.
“We have to see if heโs ready on Thursday. I donโt want to share on personal medical updates on players. Hopefully, we will be fine, but if not, it will be short-term.”
Van Nistelrooy is anticipating a tough challenge against a Liverpool side he called the ‘dominant force’ in the Premier League and Champions League this season. The Dutchman was full of praise for compatriot Arne Slot, who he said has ‘got it right straight away’ at Anfield.
“Itโs clear who the dominant force are in this game. I know how Arne wants to make his teams play. Heโs got it right straight away. They are the dominant force also in the Champions League.
“The streak is remarkable. We have to be very compact, we have to be ready to know what weโre facing. We have to be ready to play too. It will be a great task but itโs a great chance to develop in all areas in the game, and that will help us towards the finish line.”
