Leicester place £40m valuation on in demand Maddison

Leicester value James Maddison at around £40m ahead of anticipated approaches for the midfielder this summer.

Maddison looks certain to leave Leicester following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League, with the 26-year-old expected to move on as he looks to retain his place in the England squad.

Maddison will not be short of suitors after another impressive individual season in the Premier League, one that saw the midfielder score 10 goals and provide nine assists despite Leicester’s relegation to the second tier.

That form saw Maddison recalled to the England squad after a three-year absence and he made his first start for the Three Lions during March’s international break. He has retained his place in Gareth Southgate’s plans for this month’s UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Malta and North Macedonia.

Newcastle made an approach to sign Maddison last summer, while Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been linked in recent transfer windows. The Athletic are reporting that Leicester value Maddison at around £40m, given he will enter the final season of his contract this summer.

Leicester are reluctant to run the risk of losing Maddison on a free transfer in 2024 and hope interest from a number of clubs can lead to a ‘bidding war’ for his services this summer.
