Aymeric Laporte says Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is an ‘example’ to the rest of the squad.
The Belgian defender scored what could prove to be a title-deciding goal in City’s 1-0 win over Leicester on Monday night, a stunning effort from distance to take Pep Guardiola’s side back to the top of the Premier League.
Kompany is out of contract at the end of the season, with terms yet to be discussed over a new deal, and teammate Laporte has praised the 33-year-old’s influence on the rest of the squad.
“It is amazing, unbelievable,” Kompany told the press after the game.
”I never see one goal like that – maybe because I wasn’t on the pitch, I don’t know – but we are so satisfied with this game.
“He is a guy (who is) very important for us, for the club. I think he gives us a lot of things. He is an example for us.
“We have to improve and keep working with him because he can give a lot and he is a very good guy on and off the pitch.”
