Lampard on Karius: Mistakes like this are not for this level

Real Madrid were crowned Champions League winners for the third successive season after they defeated Liverpool 3-1 in a game full of drama in Kiev tonight.

Madrid’s goals would come from two horrific howlers which came either side of Gareth Bale scoring one of the greatest ever Champions League goals with a gravity defying bicycle kick.

Speaking after the game, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard revealed that he felt sorry for Liverpool’s keeper Karius after his high profile errors, but also admitted that his mistakes had ultimately cost his side any chance of victory:

“On a human level you can feel sadness for Loris Karius,’’ he told BT Sport.

“That’s with him for life now. Mistakes like this are not for this level, the Champions League final. The first one, which kind of changed the momentum of the game, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“It’s a horrible moment for him. he needs some big support from his team-mates now. He didn’t mean that but it’s cost them the game.”
