Lampard discusses Chelsea’s ‘interesting’ season run-in

Frank Lampard has refuted the suggestion that Chelsea have nothing to play for this season and has discussed the club’s ‘interesting’ run-in.

Chelsea face Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday evening as the Blues look to end a run of four consecutive defeats in all competitions.

It’s been a difficult season for the west Londoners, who have sacked both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, before placing Lampard in interim charge until the end of the season.

Chelsea are 11th in the Premier League table and set to end the season without silverware and miss out on European football next season.

Ahead of the club’s clash with Brentford, Lampard was asked how his side can remain motivated ahead of the run-in.

“I don’t have a mentality that there is nothing to play for,” Lampard told his pre-match press conference.

”They have been fortunate at Chelsea to have had that for 15, 20 years, but it’s a reality when you have a long career, you won’t compete every season.

“We now have seven games, three against the top four, so will be interesting to see how the players react.”
