Frank Lampard has backed his former England team-mate Steven Gerrard to be a hit at Rangers, should he take over as the club’s manager as expected.
The former Liverpool captain is widely expected to takeover at Ibrox in the coming days as he finally starts his managerial career in senior football, having spent this season managing within Liverpool’s youth setup.
It is thought that the deal to take him from Merseyside to Glasgow will be on an interesting loan basis, which will of course keep the opportunity of an Anfield return open should things not go to plan.
However, having played together for number of years for England during their careers, Frank Lampard has tipped his former international teammate to be able to handle the pressure:
“In terms of the size of the club and knowing Steven pretty well, I think it’s a great opportunity for him,” Lampard told talkSPORT.
“If it feels right, I think he can handle that pressure from his playing days, he’s no stranger to that with the career he had in the game.
“He has cut his teeth at Liverpool with the young lads there and at some point Steven is going to step out of that and go into managing men, managing a first-team.
“So that’s why I think Rangers would be a great opportunity for him.”
