Kudus turns down Ajax contract amid Premier League links

Mohammed Kudus has turned down the offer of a contract extension at Ajax with the forward a reported transfer target for several Premier League clubs.

Kudus has had a breakout season at Ajax to score 18 goals in all competitions and impressed during the Champions League group stage – scoring against Liverpool and Rangers – despite Ajax’s early exit in Europe.

The 22-year-old came close to leaving the Eredivisie for Everton last summer, but a deal collapsed and the forward has since earned a prominent place in the Ajax side.

Dutch publication De Telegraaf are reporting that Kudus could be set to play his last game for Ajax against FC Twente on Sunday, having rejected the chance to extend his deal in Amsterdam. The player’s agent, Jennifer Mendelewitsch, has said that ‘now is the right time’ for Kudus to move on.

“He has ignored a proposal to extend his contract until the summer of 2026,” Mendelewitsch said. “I think it is best for both Ajax and Mohammed that he makes a transfer now. Now is the right time.”

Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle have all been credited with interest in the Ghanaian, who scored twice during his nation’s World Cup campaign in Qatar last winter. Kudus is understood to be valued at around €45m (£39m) at Ajax.
