Manchester United target Kalidou Koulibaly has said that he is ‘pleased’ to be linked with a number of top clubs, and wants to become one of the ‘greatest’ defenders.
The Senegal international has previously been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool, while Manchester United are now most strongly linked with his services, with defence looking like a particular point of weakness in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The Red Devils have been claimed to have made Koulibaly their top defensive target and would be willing to smash the current world record transfer fee for a defender, which was set when Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in January 2018 for £75m.
Now, the 27-year-old has fueled the transfer rumours by admitting that he is flattered by the interest being shown in him.
“My future? I don’t know if I’m one of the strongest defenders. I always try to give my best,” Koulibaly told Rai Sport.
“Since I’m here, I always try to grow with Napoli. I have a lot of motivation to go on and I want to keep doing this.
“I am pleased that many teams follow me, but I want to demonstrate on the field that I am at the level of the greatest and I want to show it in the future.”
Despite their iffy looking defence, Manchester United have managed to overhaul an 11 point deficit and move into the top four in the race to qualify for the Champions League.
