Kompany: ‘Man Utd fans want us to beat Liverpool’

For Premier League fans anyway the match up between Manchester City and Liverpool will be the most eagerly awaited of all the upcoming Champions League quarter finals.

Both teams are renowned for playing attacking football, and normally when the two sides have met in recent years they have been thoroughly entertaining affairs.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp’s side are they only team to have beaten Man City in the Premier League this season, when they overcome Guardiola’s men 4-3 at Anfield in January.

The games are due to the take place on the 4th and 10th of April, and speaking ahead of the fixtures, City captain Vincent Kompany has revealed that even Manchester United fans will want his team to beat Liverpool, such is the rivalry between the two North Eastern Cities.

“It is the only thing people talk about in Manchester right now,”

“The Champions League is obviously massive, somehow I feel like we do get a little bit of support from the United fans for that fixture.

“But other than that the game against United is the biggest thing to talk about but we still have to play Everton (on the weekend before the first Liverpool tie).” Kompany said to Sky Sports.

On the Saturday in between each Champions League tie, City will face United in the Manchester Derby, whilst Liverpool will face their own local rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby.
