Ronald Koeman has admitted that he Everton are close to signing Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City.

The Blues have been chasing the Icelandic international for several months and have had a number of bids rejected by the Swans, who are holding out for £50m.

Speaking about his transfer plans, Koeman said:

“Everybody knows we are looking for three more players.

“A left centre-back, left-back who can play in both positions, a winger and a striker.

“That is the picture and what is best for our team.

“The transfer window closes at the end of the month and we have time.”

Responding to questions about Sigurdsson, he also said:

“It is close but we have to wait. The deal isn’t done.”

Everton have been linked with making a move for Olivier Giroud. They have also been linked with a move for Giroud’s Arsenal teammate Danny Welbeck as an alternative to the French striker.

The Blues kick off their Premier League campaign next Saturday at home to Stoke City.
