Jurgen Klopp was happy with how Liverpool went about their business in today’s 3-0 home win over Southampton.
The Reds’ starting eleven had three changes from the team that faced PSG last Tuesday night. Klopp employed Xherdan Shaqiri in an attacking midfield role while Joel Matip replaced Joe Gomez at centre-back.
“My plan was to change tactics but we didn’t have time to train because of the weather in Liverpool,’’ Klopp told BBC’s MOTD.
Joel Matip scored a great header from a corner to make it 2-0 after a clumsy Wesley Hoedt own goal had given Liverpool an early lead. Just before half-time, Shaqiri saw his free-kick hit the crossbar and bounce back into play but Mo Salah was on hand to tap it home, giving Liverpool a 3-0 lead at the interval.
”We scored from set pieces, that was really cool, and the second half we had to control the game a bit.” He added.
Liverpool have now made it seven straight wins in all competitions to start the season. Klopp is well aware of the tests that lie ahead of his team, however.
”Winning seven in a row is cool but challenges will get tougher and tougher and we have four days to prepare for [League Cup game against] Chelsea. The boys are in good shape and that helps.’’ He continued.
