Jurgen Klopp has discussed the threat of Burnley and has called the struggling Clarets a potential ‘banana skin’ for Liverpool this weekend.
Liverpool host Vincent Kompany’s team in the Premier League tomorrow, with the league leaders looking to maintain their advantage at the top of the table. Burnley arrive on Merseyside mired in relegation trouble and are without a win in five Premier League games.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Klopp outlined the threat he believes Burnley will pose his team and insists Liverpool can not underestimate the Clarets.
“From the outside world it’s probably a banana skin but within sports they’re just an opponent,” the German said.
“[Vincent Kompany] has learnt so many important things having the highs of the Championship last year and then getting knock by knock this year.
“They have somebody who looks like they can score goals. If they lose, it’s never by a high score, they can play football. From us, we will have the next increase of people in the stadium which will be really nice and we have nothing else to do other than create a special atmosphere and give them a reaction.
“We should be ready for it but we have work to do. We are fighting with a bit of flu in the squad so we will have to see who’s available, but we’ll have eleven players and go for it.”
Klopp provided a further update on his squad and confirmed Dominik Szoboszlai remains out. Wataru Endo is available for selection after returning from the Asian Cup.
“[Dominik Szoboszlai] is running outside in the winter rain but he’s not ready for tomorrow.
“We have to see with tendons, the players are pain free pretty quickly but it’s not good he’s got it again. I don’t know whether it will be Brighton or after the final.
“[Wataru] Endo – He’s available which is good.”
