Klopp warns against threat of ‘incredible’ Burnley

Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool side about the threat posed by Burnley ahead of the club’s trip to Turf Moor this weekend.

Liverpool travel to face the Clarets in the Premier League this weekend, looking to secure a fourth consecutive league win after beating Leicester 2-0 at Anfield on Thursday evening.

Diogo Jota scored both goals as the Reds moved within nine points of league leaders Manchester City, whilst the win over the Foxes also included an impressive full debut from Luis Diaz.

Klopp has praised the performance the Colombia international and admits Diaz’s display was ‘one of the best’ he has seen from a debutant.

“He has the skillset and character. One of the best first games I saw from a new player but we have to see how he adapts, there’s no rush,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“It was a good chance to start him with Sadio not here and Mo back from an intense tournament. Yes, Luis showed up.”

Burnley remain bottom of the Premier League and have just one win so far this season, but held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in midweek with a spirited performance.

Klopp is expecting a tough challenge against Sean Dyche’s side and praised the Clarets’ ‘incredible’ team performance last time out.

“I had the pleasure to watch Burnley against United. This situation explains the Premier League the best. The quality they produced was incredible. It was a proper team performance. There is a big possibility for them to still stay in the league.

“They brought in a new striker [Wout Weghorst]. If you saw the game, you would have seen he is a lively boy. He was very active all over the pitch. Burnley ask for all physicality you can put in a game, we cannot have the ball all the time and they are good when they have the ball.

“They have footballers everywhere. On top of that, the set-piece threat, we have to be aware and concentrated.”

Klopp confirmed that Jordan Henderson will be fit to return after missing the win over Leicester, whilst Sadio Mane will be assessed after returning from helping Senegal to AFCON success.

“Will Sadio be available? We have to find out. We will make a decision after training. Physically we have to see how the last few days were for him.”

“Hendo will be back. If nothing happens, he will play on Sunday.”
