Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he has no plans to sign another defender during the summer transfer window.
It has been a hugely successful pre-season for the Anfield outfit both on and of the pitch, with Klopp adding goalkeeper Alisson, midfielders Fabinho and Naby Keita, as well as attacker Xherdan Shaqiri to his squad.
However, Liverpool have also been heavily linked with adding another centre-back to their ranks, with Croatia international Domagoj Vida reportedly a top target, but Klopp has now revealed that he does not need to sign another defender due to what England international Joe Gomez can offer:
“This summer? No. I’m happy with our players to be honest. I don’t see the need,” The German coach said after his sides 4-1 pre-season friendly victory over Manchester United.
“Joe Gomez brings a lot of things that we don’t find on the transfer market to be honest.”
Gomez impressed at both right-back and centre-half last season, forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad, before his campaign was cruelly cut short by injury.
