Klopp praises ‘super’ Daniel Sturridge

Jurgen Klopp has hailed Daniel Sturridge as super following his performance in Liverpool’s Champions League opener against PSG.

Sturridge gave Liverpool the lead in his first Champions League start since moving to Liverpool in 2012, before James Milner struck from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.

French champions PSG drew the scores level through Thomas Meunier and Kylian Mbappe either side of the break, only for Roberto Firmino to strike in stoppage time to grab a crucial three points in what is a difficult group for the Reds.

Speaking after the game, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the former Chelsea striker, who had been drafted in due to the eye injury Firmino picked up at the weekend.

“Daniel (Sturridge) played a super game,” Klopp told BT Sport.

“I have never seen him as fit as he is in the moment. He was everywhere. He helped left and right and he was in the box when he was needed.

“Then you can bring Bobby Firmino on and that helps a lot. I loved his goal celebration.”
