As Liverpool prepare to face Fulham on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp has stated how he feels this Reds side is a more mature outfit than last season.
Liverpool have endured a tough start to the season while achieving mostly positive results. However, it has been felt by many Reds’ fans that they have just about stumbled over the line on more than one occasion. Klopp himself said that they had lost their mojo after Tuesday night’s dismal defeat away to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
Speaking today, Klopp said that although the football may not be as exciting as last season, a lot of other things are going better for the team.
“We have to admit that, for ourselves, a lot of things are better than this time last year. The spectacular football has not happened in each game but it didn’t happen last year as well,” Klopp told his Friday press conference.
“The boys look much more mature this year but just not in the last game against Red Star.
“The performance dropped at Red Star and at Napoli. They were both in the Champions League, both away from home, so we have to think about that before we play our next Champions League game.”
In what seems like a strange vice-versa type switch from the early months of last season, it is Liverpool’s defence which is overperforming while the frontmen have appeared sluggish and out of sync at times.
Facing Fulham at Anfield on Sunday, Liverpool have the perfect opportunity to get back on track with a win.
