Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been keen to express his admiration for the vital role The Reds’ seemingly-ageless midfielder, James Milner, is currently playing for the club.
Klopp was speaking at Melwood today ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League fixture with Southampton. Milner has been one of Liverpool’s most impressive performers, so far this season – adding much-needed experience in the middle of the park for an otherwise-youthful side.
”It’s not just this season, last year he had most assists in Champions League. Only in football, it sounds like 32 was a massive age.’’ Klopp said during his pre-match press conference.
”In all other parts of life you are still young, and he is still young. He is a top professional and his body gives him a chance to do so.”
Milner has earned a reputation as a top professional in recent years and after running 12.9km in the recent victory over Spurs at Wembley, the former England international is showing no signs of letting up just yet.
”James is the best example for them (the squad). He is a very energetic boy and likes to cover big distances. He can play football, and that makes him a pretty valuable player.”
Milner has made himself almost irreplaceable in Liverpool’s midfield, this season. New names such as Fabinho and Naby Keita have seen their playing time somewhat limited up to now, due to the excellent form of Milner and Gini Wijnaldum.
The time will come for Milner’s ‘old’ legs to be rested during the season but, for now, ‘Millie’ is still the main man in the middle for The Reds.
