Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, held his pre-game press conference at Melwood, today.
Klopp’s Liverpool team welcome Manchester City to Anfield, on Sunday. Klopp was asked about the injury which forced Naby Keita to leave the field early during The Reds Champions League defeat to Napoli, on Wednesday night:
“He had a back spasm and so we have to wait a little bit. He will be in today. If he can do something on the training ground, I don’t know.’’ Klopp told the press.
“Tomorrow, we have to decide. It didn’t look too serious so there’s a chance, but we don’t know.”
The injury to Keita looked very serious, at the time but luckily for Liverpool fans, it doesn’t seem to be as bad as first feared. Klopp has some big decisions to make for his starting lineup, on Sunday. Midfield, in particular, is an area of some concern for The Reds as they were outplayed in the middle of the park, during the week.
If Naby Keita is 100% fit then he would be expected to make the starting eleven, alongside James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum in Liverpool’s midfield trio.
In Keita’s absence, Liverpool have lacked creativity and any real support for the front three. In the same way that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was vital to Liverpool’s game-plan when City lost twice at Anfield, last season, Keita could be the key to Liverpool’s attack from his dynamic midfield role.
