Klopp delighted for former club Dortmund amid UCL run

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said he will be a firm supporter of Borussia Dortmund when his former club take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final next month.

Dortmund have exceeded all expectations to reach the Champions League final this season, with the German side confirming their place at Wembley with an aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.

It will be a third Champions League final appearance for Dortmund, and Klopp was in charge the last time the Bundesliga outfit reached the decider, losing to Bayern Munich in 2013.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Aston Villa on Monday night, Klopp was asked whether he would be a ‘supporter or pundit’ for the Champions League final on June 1.

“Supporter. Pundit, are you crazy? Really happy about that [Dortmund] because really nice to see for all the people I know there still. Big, big achievement. Nice story.”

Liverpool sit third in the Premier League table, though their title hopes are all but mathematically over after a disappointing run-in. On whether his side still have a chance, Klopp added: “It’s not now number one every morning on the priority list. Tell the boys by the way we still have a chance. We can see the table, we can all read the situation. Do we expect them to lose three games? [Manchester] City have to lose three games – difficult to see that. But you never know. Arsenal have to lose two games – difficult. Both play before, if they both lose let’s talk about it.

“We have the chance to go above 80 points again. Like everything in life you should never take things like this for granted.”
