Klopp claims Liverpool are on ‘fire’ ahead of Newcastle clash

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are ‘on fire’ as they prepare to face Newcastle this weekend.

Liverpool travel to the North East to face Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday, looking to keep the pressure on leaders Manchester City in the title race.

Victory on Tyneside will move Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League, and ensure the title race will go down to the final day with City not in action until Monday evening.

Wednesday night’s 3-0 Champions League semi-final first leg defeat at Barcelona leaves the club’s European hopes in serious doubt, but Klopp says his side are firing on all cylinders as the season reaches its conclusion.

“The performances in recent weeks have been brilliant. Now we need to carry on like this,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.

“The boys are completely on fire. When you’re in the race, you don’t get tired. We are ambitious like hell.

”All we can do is beat Newcastle and that’s unbelievably difficult, what other teams do on Monday night isn’t our problem.”
