Klopp discusses potential Alisson return from injury but Matip ruled out against Leicester

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alisson is in contention to return from injury for the Reds this weekend, though Joel Matip will miss the clash with Leicester after suffering a knock at Sheffield United last time out.

The league leaders host the in-form Foxes at Anfield on Saturday, with former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers returning to the club for the first time since his departure in four years ago.

Klopp has now revealed that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is in contention for the fixture, having not featured since suffering a calf injury in the opening game of the new season against Norwich City on August 9.

Defender Joel Matip, who missed the midweek Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg, will again be absent, with Xherdan Shaqiri and Nathaniel Clyne also sidelined with calf and knee injuries respectively.

“Alisson trained with the team yesterday and looked really good, we will see,” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“I have to talk with different people before I make a decision about that.

“Joel [Matip] looks good but is not ready for tomorrow. Xherdan Shaqiri; no. And Nathaniel Clyne; no. After the international break they are all back on track.”
