Arsenal legend Martin Keown has said that Jose Mourinho ‘seems to be at war with his players’ following the latest controversies surrounding Manchester United.
Having lost two of their opening three Premier League games of the season, Manchester United recovered some form to win three games on the spin.
However, that recent upturn in form has been shattered by two disappointing results in the space of just four days, drawing against newly promoted Wolves at the weekend, before being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Derby County last night on penalties.
All of this comes on the back of reported rifts within the United squad, with Mourinho’s relationship with the likes of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw all being questioned in recent months. With Mourinho having confirmed he has stripped Pogba of his role as one of his captains, Arsenal legend Martin Keown has suggested that the Portuguese is at war with his players while also adding that he doesn’t enjoy watching the Red Devils not being competitive:
“Everyone in the media is quick to turn this into a massive crisis. Man Utd have had some good away results but suddenly theyโre not able to win at home,” Keown said on BBC Radio 5Live.
“Is it the manager pulling up the handbrake or is the team struggling for another reason?
“I donโt enjoy seeing Man Utd not being competitive. Jose Mourinho seems to be at war with his players and he needs to start seeing the good in what they do.”
