Roy Keane has warned Ruben Amorim that Manchester United will be no quick fix after the club’s ‘disappointing’ draw with Chelsea.
Amorim was appointed as Manchester United manager on Friday and will officially take charge during November’s international break.
The 39-year-old’s success at Sporting Lisbon, who he has led to two Primeira Liga titles, saw him chosen as Erik ten Hag’s replacement at Old Trafford.
Interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy led the side to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, after Bruno Fernandes’ penalty was cancelled out by Moises Caicedo’s strike.
The draw leaves the Red Devils 13th in the table, after the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.
Keane called Manchester United a ‘bit average at everything’ and suggested Amorim – who signed a two-and-a-half year deal – will need longer to turn around their fortunes.
“Ruben Amorim should have signed a longer contract. There’s a long way back for this team. This is an average Untied team, all the stats back it up,” Keane said to Sky Sports.
“We are repeating ourselves, we don’t know what we are going to get from them – it’s hit and miss. This United team, boring, might be a bit strong. At the end it was a bit more open, but really disappointed – it was so flat. From the managers point of view, this team is way off it.
“A really disappointing performance. United are a bit average at everything and they are not special. The lack of goals is hard to believe.
“When you look at United, they play for moments. That’s nowhere near good enough for a United team.”
