Keane labels Wilshere ‘most overrated player on planet’

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere was handed the captaincy during his sides Europa League last 16 second leg tie against Ostersunds at the Emirates last night.

However, the Gunners put in an embarrassingly poor performance that saw them slip to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to the Swedish minnows, although they qualified for the quarter final 4-2 on aggregate.

Speaking on ITV after the game, one of the Premier League’s greatest ever central midfielders Roy Keane, blasted Arsenal and their captain for the night Wilshere.

“I always think, when Wilshere’s your captain, to me, probably the most overrated player on the planet.”

And they got lucky with the result at the end of it. But if you start a game slowly, no matter how good you are, it’s hard to get going. You can’t just switch it on and off.” The former Man United captain said.

Wilshere has long been heralded as English football’s best creative midfielders. He is undoubtedly a talented player and to be fair to the 26-year-old he has struggled with injury issues over the years.

However, since making his Premier League debut in the 2009/10 season the England internationals most productive ever campaign came in 2013/2014 when he played 25 times, scoring four goals and providing three assists. So maybe it’s not just Keane being his normal grumpy self, and he actually has a point on this one.
