Kane hails one of ‘best performances of the season’ as Spurs keep Champions League dream alive

Harry Kane has said that Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 victory over PSV last night was one of their best performances of the season as they maintained a chance of progressing to the Champions League knockout stages.

Going into the game, Spurs knew they had to win to keep any hopes of progression from the Champions League group stages alive, but were dealt an early blow when Luuk de Jong put the visitors ahead after just 61 seconds.

Pochettino’s men would dominate proceedings at Wembley, controlling 75 per cent of possession, and having 30 efforts on goal, but it took until the 78th minute to make a breakthrough, with Harry Kane keeping their European dream alive with two goals in the last 12 minutes

Speaking after the game, the England captain and Spurs matchwinner said that he thought it was the best performance of the campaign so far from the North London club.

“We said we were disappointed coming away from there. Today it wasn’t ideal conceding early but then we were dominant and created chances,” Kane told BT Sport.

“We could have been more clinical but we’ll just take a win in the Champions League. We had to dig deep and find another level when it mattered.

“We have been grinding results out here and there all season. We are getting wins. Today was one of our best performances of the season.”
