Jurgen Klopp has called on Liverpool to show a ‘top mentality’ as his side prepare to face Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League.
Liverpool came from behind to beat LASK in their group stage opener and next welcome Belgian league leaders Union Saint-Gilloise to Anfield.
Union Saint-Gilloise came third in the Belgian Pro League last season after an enthralling title race and have began the new campaign in fine form, leading the division on goals scored after nine games this season.
Klopp was delighted with the spirit his side showed during the club’s controversial defeat to Spurs at the weekend and has called on Liverpool to again show ‘top mentality’ in Europe this week.
“We had a good spirit before that [Saturday’s game at Tottenham], I didn’t need any kind of proof but that is how it is in football, you need to prove yourself all of the time,” the German told his pre-match press conference.
“It was really special, top mentality and that is what we need tomorrow night [against Union Saint-Gilloise].
“We face a team that is flying in the league, they are top of the table and doing really well. It’s super special what they are doing there and we will be ready.”
Klopp confirmed that Cody Gakpo will not feature for Liverpool against Union Saint-Gilloise, after the Dutch international was substituted through injury after scoring during the defeat at Spurs.
