Jurgen Klopp has warned that Liverpool must be almost flawless to remain in the Premier League title race this season.
Liverpool are top of the Premier League table and face title rivals Arsenal in a huge clash at the Emirates this weekend. The Reds hold a five-point advantage at the summit, though have played a game more than Manchester City in second.
Arsenal, who sit third, are also five points behind the Merseysiders and Klopp said his team are focused on this weekend ahead of a ‘difficult’ game in North London.
“If we win Arsenal it will be eight points but everyone knows that. All that is outside talk. Inside we just focus on the game, on the things we have to do.
“We have to learn from the games we have played against them and try to win. Against Arsenal it’s more difficult anyway. We are in a good moment. We should pack in the things we did well. Improve. We have to be much more dominant.”
Liverpool are aiming to end Manchester City’s recent stranglehold on the Premier League, with the Citizens targeting an unprecedented four top-flight crowns in a row. Pep Guardiola’s team have won eight consecutive games in all competitions and have Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland back available.
Klopp said that recent history shows Liverpool must be almost perfect to have a chance of being crowned champions at the end of the campaign.
“What we learned over the years if you want to be around Manchester City, you better win all your football games because they are good. This is the league, this is the time City are dominating. That’s how it is. They play incredible stuff and would probably consider themselves to not be playing their best season but look where they are.
“We have a really good season and a few points ahead. They are having an okay season and are a few points behind, that’s really interesting.
“That’s the situation we are in. Arsenal, they beat us, they are definitely there. They don’t beat us, ask other people. But there are so many games to come! We so often judge in the moment. You can lose all these games, you can win them as well. You can lose players in key moments. We will try to make it as hard as possible. Let’s see if we can do it.”
