Hurrah! A story that doesn’t contain the words Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez or Luke Shaw…well not after this bit anyway. However, after weeks of talking about players potentially being sold by Manchester United, here’s a story about two players who won’t be being forced out of the Old Trafford exit door.
There have been claims in the last week or so that up to TEN first team players could be set to be sold or quitting the club this summer for one reason or another. Whether it be retirement, ending contracts, falling out of favour with the manager, or otherwise, it’s going to be a huge summer of change for Red Devils fans.
Despite some media outlets suggesting otherwise though, reports in Spain claim that United’s Spanish duo of Ander Herrera and Juan Mata have been told they will NOT be forced out of the club this summer, despite not being regular starters this season.
This is the report in Spanish publication Marca, who claim the duo have been told by Jose Mourinho that they are not on his list of players to be potentially sold, although the 55-year-old former Chelsea boss wouldn’t stand in their way should they want to leave.
Mourinho has always been pretty consistent when it comes to players wanting to leave, believing there is no point keeping an unhappy player at a club against their will.
Herrera has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months while Mata has also been linked with a move back to Spain.
Both players are thought to be happy at the club, but with game time difficult to come by, especially for Herrera who has featured in just six Premier League matches this season for one reason or another, they could be tempted to seek pastures new.
If both were to decide to leave however, it would be interesting to see what that would mean for David de Gea, who is a very good friend of his fellow Spaniards, and could finally decide to make the long speculated move to Real Madrid.
