Hartson labels Arsenal’s bid for Tierney as ‘an embarrassment’

John Hartson has labelled Arsenal’s move for Kieran Tierney as ‘an embarrassment’.

Arsenal are operating on a shoestring budget this summer, with Unai Emery believed to have just £40 million to bolster his squad, with the Gunners defence and midfield being in particular need of surgery.

Reports in The Sun today claim that Arsenal have made a move for the Celtic full back, seeing their £15 million bid turned down by the Scottish champions.

The report added that the Gunners tried to offer fringe players such as Carl Jenkinson, Jordi Osei-Tutu, Emile Smith Rowe or Eddie Nketiah to sweeten the deal, but were swiftly rebuffed, with Celtic reportedly saying that ‘the price starts at £25m’.

Having played for both clubs during his 15 year playing career, former Wales international striker John Hartson took to Twitter to label the opening offer as ‘an embarrassment’.

“My old club Arsenal testing the water with a reported 15m bid for KT. Celtic don’t want to sell besides that in this current market 15m is an embarrassment to the player and his ability,” he said.

The article adds that Arsenal will submit an improved bid for the 22-year-old in the coming days.
