Joao Pedro stars as Chelsea beat AC Milan in Jakarta

Joao Pedro scored twice as Chelsea secured a 3-0 victory over AC Milan in Jakarta to claim a much-needed pre-season win under Xabi Alonso.

Joao Pedro scored twice as Chelsea secured a 3-0 victory over AC Milan in Jakarta to claim a much-needed pre-season win under Xabi Alonso.

The Blues had been beaten by Tottenham and Juventus in their previous two friendlies but produced a much-improved display against Ruben Amorim’s Milan side.

Chelsea dominated the opening exchanges but had to wait until first-half stoppage time to break the deadlock. Joao Pedro had already missed two clear opportunities before heading home an in-swinging corner from six yards.

The Brazil forward doubled the advantage just seconds after the restart. Pedro Neto delivered a curling cross towards the far post and Joao Pedro forced the ball past Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani.

Chelsea then added a third four minutes later through captain Moises Caicedo.

A partially cleared corner fell to the midfielder on the edge of the penalty area, with Caicedo producing an excellent volley with the outside of his right boot that flew into the far corner.

Chelsea could have added to their advantage, with Geovany Quenda and Nicolas Jackson both striking the woodwork as Milan struggled to create a response.

The result provides Alonso with a timely boost after successive defeats by Tottenham and Juventus during the club’s pre-season tour.

Chelsea will now conclude their preparations for the new campaign against Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta’zim on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00 BST.

The Blues will then begin their 2026-27 Premier League campaign against Fulham on 24 August.
