Manchester City have submitted a verbal proposal for Rennes winger Jeremy Doku and are hopeful of reaching an agreement this week despite competition from Premier League rivals.

Doku is a target for the Premier League champions as Pep Guardiola looks to improve his wide options, following the sale of Riyad Mahrez to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli and uncertainty surrounding the future of Cole Palmer.

Doku scored seven goals in all competitions during an impressive season at Rennes last term and Fabrizio Romano is reporting that City have lodged a verbal offer in the region of €60m for the 21-year-old.

The Belgium international is understood to have given City the ‘green light’ over a potential move to the Etihad earlier this month, despite rival interest in his services from both West Ham and Chelsea.

City are hoping to reach an agreement with Rennes this week, with Doku viewed as a different profile of player to the club’s current wide options given his explosive pace.

The winger could become City’s third signing of the summer window, after confirmed deals for Croatia internationals Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol.
