Milner stat shows incredible Premier League longevity

James Milner is a legend of the Premier League. The evergreen midfielder just keeps on going, with the 39-year-old scoring in Brighton’s 2-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

Milner’s goal was his first since joining Brighton, dispatched from the penalty spot as the Seagulls came from behind to win at the Amex Stadium.

It was a record-breaking goal for Milner, who became the oldest penalty scorer in Premier League history. More fascinatingly, Milner’s goal also made him the second-oldest Premier League goalscorer, behind only Teddy Sheringham (40 years 08 months 24 days).

Incredibly, Milner also holds the record as the second-youngest scorer in Premier League history, after netting his first goal for Leeds United as a fresh-faced 16-year-old.

That goal, against Sunderland, was scored just nine days before his 17th birthday, way back on December 26th 2002.

That is some longevity.

Next in his sights, the Premier League’s all-time appearance record…
